CURACAO DESTINATION WEDDINGS

For Couples Who Want the Caribbean—Differently.

Curaçao is colorful, distinctive, and wonderfully unexpected.

This southern Caribbean island combines beautiful beaches and clear turquoise water with Dutch-Caribbean architecture, vibrant culture, distinctive cuisine, and wedding settings that feel unlike many of the Caribbean's traditional resort destinations.

Whether you're imagining an oceanfront resort celebration, an intimate beach wedding, or a wedding weekend that encourages guests to get out and experience the island, Curaçao gives you room to create something that feels entirely your own.

Behind The Scenes helps bring together the wedding, resort, guest travel, and island experience.

WHY COUPLES LOVE CURACAO

This Isn't a Copy-and-Paste Caribbean Experience.

Curaçao has the beaches and turquoise water couples want from a Caribbean destination—but that's only part of its personality.

The island brings together Caribbean, Dutch, and Latin influences, colorful architecture, beautiful coves, restaurants, history, and a culture that encourages visitors to explore.

That means your wedding weekend can extend beyond the resort.

Guests can spend time in Willemstad, discover beaches around the island, experience local restaurants, and explore a destination that feels very different from home.

Curaçao's official tourism authority also emphasizes its diversity and welcoming approach to weddings and romance, along with direct air access from North America, Europe, and South America.

The resort can host the wedding.

Curaçao can host the experience.

WHERE IN CURACAO?

One Island. Several Ways to Experience It.

Curaçao may be more compact than some of the other destinations we plan, but location still matters.

Some couples want to be close to the colorful streets, restaurants, and energy of Willemstad. Others picture a resort-centered experience, a quieter stretch of coastline, or a wedding surrounded by the island's natural beauty.

So rather than asking:

“What's the best area in Curaçao?”

we start with:

“How do you want Curaçao to feel for your wedding?”

WILLEMSTAD

Colorful • Cultural • Connected

For couples who want the personality of Curaçao woven into their wedding trip.

Willemstad gives guests access to colorful historic architecture, restaurants, shopping and an experience that extends well beyond the resort.

BEST FOR:

Culture • Restaurants • Exploring • Architecture • Guests wanting more than a resort

JAN THIEL + SOUTHEAST

Social • Stylish • Experience-Driven

This side of Curaçao can appeal to couples looking for beaches, restaurants, activities and a more social vacation atmosphere.

BEST FOR:
Groups • Dining • Activities • Beach clubs • Wedding weekends with energy

PISCADERA BAY + CENTRAL COAST

Resort-Friendly • Convenient • Balanced

A strong option for couples who want a resort wedding while remaining relatively connected to Willemstad and other parts of the island.

BEST FOR:

Resort weddings • Groups • Convenience • Guests who want resort + island time

WEST CURAÇAO

Natural • Quiet • Scenic

Head farther west and the island becomes quieter and more nature-focused, with beautiful coves, beaches and a slower pace.

This can be especially appealing for couples who want their Curaçao experience to emphasize the island's natural side.

BEST FOR:
Scenery • Exploration • Intimate experiences • Nature • Guests comfortable being farther from Willemstad

VERONICA'S TAKE

Curaçao is a destination where I'd encourage couples to think beyond the wedding day. If your guests enjoy exploring, dining, beaches and experiencing a destination rather than staying exclusively at a resort, Curaçao can create an incredible wedding weekend.

BEEN THERE. EXPERIENCED CURAÇAO FIRSTHAND.

The Best Resort Is the One That Fits Your Wedding.

Curaçao offers everything from larger resorts to boutique properties and more intimate wedding experiences.

But a beautiful property isn't enough.

Behind The Scenes looks at how the resort, location, and wedding experience work together for the couple and the people traveling with them.

WHAT KIND OF CURAÇAO EXPERIENCE FITS YOUR WEDDING?

Resort-Centered or Island-Centered?

RESORT-CENTERED

Ideal for couples who want most of the wedding weekend to happen in one convenient place.

May work especially well for:

  • Larger groups

  • Multigenerational celebrations

  • Guests wanting easy access to amenities

  • Couples who prefer organized activities

  • Wedding weekends with multiple hosted events

BUT CONSIDER: Whether guests will experience much of Curaçao beyond the resort.

ISLAND-CENTERED

Ideal for couples who want Curaçao itself to become part of the celebration.

May work especially well for:

  • Smaller groups

  • Guests who enjoy exploring

  • Couples interested in local restaurants and culture

  • Off-property activities

  • Wedding weekends with multiple island experiences

BUT CONSIDER: Transportation, guest mobility, and the logistics involved in moving a group around the island.

There's no wrong answer.

The question is how much of Curaçao you want your guests to experience.

That makes this page uniquely useful.

GETTING TO CURAÇAO

One Airport. One Island. Plenty to Explore.

International guests arrive through Curaçao International Airport (CUR).

Curaçao currently has direct air service from North America, Europe, South America, and other Caribbean destinations. The tourism authority currently lists carriers serving North America, including American, Delta, JetBlue, United, and Air Canada, although routes and schedules change seasonally.

A SOUTHERN CARIBBEAN LOCATION

What About Hurricane Season?

Curaçao sits in the southern Caribbean, approximately 90 miles north of Venezuela, and the Curaçao Tourism Board describes the island as being outside the hurricane belt.

That can make Curaçao particularly interesting for couples considering Caribbean wedding dates during months traditionally associated with Atlantic hurricane season.

But—and this is important—I would immediately say:

No Caribbean destination is weather-proof.

Behind The Scenes still recommends appropriate travel protection, contingency planning and careful review of resort and supplier cancellation policies regardless of wedding date.

MAKING IT OFFICIAL

Can U.S. Couples Legally Get Married in Curaçao?

Yes.

Current official Curaçao guidance requires couples to submit a written marriage request along with supporting documentation that can include birth certificates showing the parents' names, a declaration of unmarried status with appropriate apostille/legalization, passport copies, and additional documents when either person is divorced or widowed. Documents must be recent, original, and legally certified, and the tourism authority states that specified documents may not be more than six months old by the wedding date.

I would also add something here that makes Curaçao stand out:

Curaçao legally recognizes same-sex marriage. The island's tourism authority states that same-sex marriage has been fully legal since July 2024 and follows the same civil marriage process.

IMPORTANT

Legal marriage requirements, documentation, and government procedures can change. Behind The Scenes can help couples understand the planning process, but current requirements should always be confirmed with Curaçao authorities and your wedding provider.

LET'S TALK BUDGET

What Does a Curaçao Destination Wedding Cost?

There isn't one meaningful average price for a Curaçao destination wedding.

A large resort celebration on Paradise Island and an intimate wedding on an Out Island are completely different events with different accommodations, transportation, venues, and planning requirements.

WHAT WE LOOK AT INSTEAD

Rather than asking:

“What's the cheapest Curaçaowedding package?”

we help couples ask:

“What will the complete Curaçao wedding experience realistically cost?”

DON'T FORGET THE ROOMS

Your Curaçao Wedding Is Also a Group Trip.

Your accommodations affect much more than where your guests sleep.

Room categories, rates, resort location, booking deadlines, and group requirements can all affect the wedding experience.

Behind The Scenes considers the room block, resort, and wedding together, helping create a clear booking process for your guests while keeping the larger celebration connected.
