WHY COUPLES LOVE JAMAICA

More Than a Beautiful Backdrop.

Jamaica works especially well for destination weddings because couples don't have to choose between a beautiful wedding setting and a memorable group vacation.

The island offers everything from large all-inclusive resorts and adults-only escapes to romantic boutique properties, historic settings and intimate coastal retreats.

But what really distinguishes Jamaica is everything surrounding the wedding.

Your guests can spend the days before and after your celebration exploring waterfalls, enjoying the water, discovering Jamaican food and music, or simply settling into island time together.

The wedding may be the reason everyone comes.

Jamaica becomes part of what everyone remembers.

WHERE IN JAMAICA?

One Island. Four Very Different Wedding Experiences.

One of the first questions we help couples answer isn't simply:

“Should we get married in Jamaica?”

It's:

“Which Jamaica is right for us?”

Jamaica's major wedding regions offer very different resort styles, scenery, activities, and travel experiences.

MONTEGO BAY

Accessible • Resort-Rich • Convenient

Montego Bay is often the easiest starting point for wedding groups because guests arrive directly into Sangster International Airport and the area offers a large concentration of resorts.

It's especially appealing when guest convenience and resort choice are major priorities.

BEST FOR:
Larger groups • Shorter transfers • Resort variety • First-time destination wedding groups

OCHO RIOS

Lush • Adventurous • Experience-Driven

If Jamaica's waterfalls, tropical landscape, and off-resort experiences are part of what attracts you to the island, Ocho Rios deserves serious consideration.

This part of Jamaica gives wedding groups easy access to some of the island's best-known natural attractions while still offering substantial resort choices.

BEST FOR:
Active guests • Multigenerational groups • Excursions • Couples wanting lush scenery

NEGRIL

Laid-Back • Romantic • Sunset-Loving

Negril offers a different Jamaica.

Its famous Seven Mile Beach, relaxed atmosphere and dramatic West End cliffs make it particularly appealing to couples imagining a romantic, less hurried wedding experience.

The trade-off is transportation: Negril generally requires a longer ground transfer after arriving at MBJ, making guest logistics especially important.

BEST FOR:
Beach lovers • Sunsets • Romantic groups • Couples wanting a relaxed atmosphere

SOUTH COAST

Quiet • Secluded • Nature-Forward

The South Coast feels noticeably removed from Jamaica's busiest tourism centers.

It offers couples a slower, more secluded experience surrounded by natural scenery, but with fewer large all-inclusive resort choices and longer transfers.

BEST FOR:
Privacy • Intimate groups • Nature • Couples wanting to get away from the busiest resort areas

VERONICA'S TAKE

Don't choose your Jamaica resort based on the wedding package alone. I look at the entire experience—how your guests will get there, where they'll stay, how they'll move around the property, what they'll do outside the wedding, and whether the resort actually works for your particular group.

BEEN THERE. EXPERIENCED JAMAICA FIRSTHAND.

Choosing a Jamaica Wedding Resort Goes Beyond the Brochure.

A resort can look perfect online and still be completely wrong for your wedding.

That's why firsthand destination and resort knowledge matters.

When evaluating Jamaica resorts for our couples, Behind The Scenes looks beyond the beach and room photographs.

WHAT KIND OF RESORT FITS YOUR WEDDING?

Adults-Only or Family-Friendly?

ADULTS-ONLY

Ideal for couples envisioning a romantic atmosphere centered around adult guests.

May work particularly well for:

Couples-only celebrations
Smaller adult groups
Romantic wedding weekends
Guests prioritizing dining, relaxation, and nightlife

BUT CONSIDER: Children attending the wedding, younger family members, and guest-list restrictions.

FAMILY-FRIENDLY

Ideal when your wedding includes children, extended family, or guests across multiple generations.

May work particularly well for:

Large family groups
Guests traveling with children
Multigenerational weddings
Groups needing broader activity options

BUT CONSIDER: Resort size, room locations, and how wedding spaces interact with the rest of the property.

Neither is automatically better.

The right answer depends on who's coming with you.

GETTING TO JAMAICA

Your Wedding Starts Before Everyone Reaches the Resort.

For many destination wedding groups staying in Jamaica's major resort areas, Sangster International Airport (MBJ) in Montego Bay is the primary arrival point.

But landing in Jamaica isn't necessarily the end of the journey.

The distance between the airport and your resort can make a significant difference in the guest experience. A resort near Montego Bay may offer a relatively easy arrival, while properties in Negril, Ocho Rios, or the South Coast can require more time on the road.

That's why Behind The Scenes considers flight access, airport transfers, and resort location together when helping couples compare their options.

BTS PLANNING NOTE

For guests staying only three or four nights, transfer time matters even more. A beautiful resort isn't necessarily the right choice if getting there creates an unnecessarily difficult experience for your group.

MAKING IT OFFICIAL

Can U.S. Couples Legally Get Married in Jamaica?

Yes.

Jamaica permits visitors to legally marry on the island, and the official Jamaica Tourist Board says couples can marry as soon as 24 hours after arriving, provided the necessary paperwork has been completed beforehand.

Documentation can include items such as proof of citizenship/birth documentation and, where applicable, divorce or death documentation. Documents not in English have additional translation/certification requirements.

IMPORTANT

Marriage requirements, government procedures, and fees can change. We help couples understand the planning process, but couples should always confirm current legal requirements with the appropriate Jamaican authorities and their wedding provider.

That's safer and more professional than pretending BTS is the legal authority.

LET'S TALK BUDGET

What Does a Jamaica Destination Wedding Cost?

There isn't one meaningful price for a Jamaica destination wedding.

Your investment can vary considerably based on:

Guest Count
20 guests and 100 guests create very different events

Private Events

Welcome parties, rehearsal dinners, and farewell brunches

Wedding Package

Complimentary/basic packages vs. customized celebrations

Travel Dates
Season and availability affect accommodations

Venue
Beach, gazebo, rooftop, garden, private reception space

WHAT WE LOOK AT INSTEAD

Rather than asking:

“What's the cheapest wedding package?”

we help couples ask:

“What will the entire wedding experience realistically cost?”

DON'T FORGET THE ROOMS

Your Jamaica Wedding Is Also a Group Booking.

Once you've chosen the resort, the room block becomes one of the most important parts of the planning process.

Room categories, rates, deposits, deadlines, inventory, concessions, and guest booking behavior can all affect your wedding group.

Behind The Scenes helps bring the wedding and accommodations together so you're not managing one relationship with the wedding department and another completely separate experience for your guests.
