Requirements vary depending on the Mexican state and municipality where the wedding takes place. They can include passports, immigration documentation, birth certificates, medical testing or certificates, witnesses, documentation relating to previous marriages, translations, apostilles and applicable fees.

For example, current requirements published by the Civil Registry in Quintana Roo for marriages between foreigners include apostilled and Spanish-translated birth certificates, valid passports, documentation of legal stay, witnesses and medical/clinical documentation.

Because requirements can change, couples should always confirm the current process with the Civil Registry where the marriage will take place and their wedding provider.

A legal civil ceremony allows you to become legally married in Mexico but involves additional documentation and local requirements.

Some couples instead complete their legal marriage at home and hold a symbolic ceremony in Mexico. This can simplify the paperwork while still allowing the Mexico celebration to serve as their wedding day.

A symbolic ceremony doesn't have to feel any less meaningful or special. Your guests may never know the difference unless you choose to tell them.

Start with your guest list, not the resort.

An adults-only property can provide a romantic atmosphere and may be ideal for an adult-focused wedding weekend. However, it can create a problem if important guests have children.

Family-friendly resorts make it easier to accommodate children and multigenerational groups, but we still consider resort layout, activities, room categories and the location of wedding venues.

Neither is inherently better. The right resort is the one that works for the people you want beside you.

Many guests make a destination wedding a three- to five-night trip, while others choose to stay longer and turn the celebration into a vacation.

A wedding room block provides an organized way for your guests to reserve accommodations at your selected resort.

Depending on the resort and agreement, your room block can include negotiated rates or group terms, specific room categories, booking deadlines, deposits, minimum room-night requirements and group concessions.

At some resorts, your group's room production may also affect certain wedding benefits or concessions.

That's why we consider the wedding and room block together rather than treating accommodations as an afterthought.

This depends on the resort, but booking outside the official wedding room block can sometimes create complications.

Guests may not receive the same group terms or support, and their rooms may not count toward contracted room-night requirements or wedding-group benefits. At some all-inclusive resorts, guests staying elsewhere may also need to purchase a day pass or outside-guest access to attend wedding events, subject to the property's policies and availability.
