Yes. Foreign couples can legally marry in St. Lucia.

Saint Lucia's tourism authority currently states that there is no standard residency period for marriage. Couples can obtain a marriage license within 24 hours of arrival using the same-day process, while the regular license process generally requires the couple to be on the island two days before the wedding.

Required documentation can include valid passports, birth certificates and, when applicable, divorce decrees, death certificates or other supporting documents. Documents not in English require authenticated translations.

Marriage requirements and fees can change, so couples should confirm the current process with the appropriate Saint Lucia authorities and their wedding provider.

Saint Lucia currently does not require a traditional residency period before marriage.

With a same-day marriage-license application, the license may be obtained within 24 hours of arrival. With the regular marriage-license process, couples are generally required to be in Saint Lucia two days before the wedding.

Even when the legal process allows a shorter arrival window, we generally recommend arriving earlier when possible.

That gives you time to settle in, recover from travel, meet with your resort wedding team and actually enjoy St. Lucia before your wedding day.

For U.S. citizens traveling to Saint Lucia, a valid U.S. passport is required. Current U.S. travel guidance states that the passport should be valid for the duration of the stay.

Current U.S. guidance also notes a Saint Lucia electronic pre-arrival authorization/form requirement, so guests should review the most current entry procedures before traveling.

We recommend communicating passport requirements early—especially to guests who don't already have a valid passport.

Most international guests arrive through Hewanorra International Airport (UVF) in the south, while many popular resorts are located farther north or along the west coast.

Because St. Lucia is mountainous and its roads wind through the island, driving distances that look short on a map can take longer than expected.

For example, travel between the north and Soufrière can take roughly 1½ to 2 hours, depending on conditions. That's why resort location and transfer time should be considered alongside the wedding venue and room rate.

In St. Lucia, getting there is part of the planning.

That depends less on the two of you and more on who you're inviting.

An adults-only resort can create a romantic, sophisticated wedding-weekend atmosphere, but it may not work if important guests are traveling with children.

Family-friendly resorts make it easier to include children and multigenerational families, but resort size, activities, room locations and wedding venues should still be carefully considered.

We look at your actual guest list first and then help determine which type of resort makes the most sense.
