WHY COUPLES LOVE THE BAHAMAS

One Destination. So Many Ways to Experience It.

The Bahamas gives destination wedding couples something special: choice without giving up the Caribbean experience.

You can celebrate at a full-service resort with restaurants, entertainment and activities for everyone—or choose a quieter island where the water, sand and people you brought with you become the experience.

There are weddings designed for large multigenerational groups, intimate celebrations overlooking the ocean, romantic island escapes, and secluded settings that feel worlds away from everyday life.

And because the country is made up of so many islands and cays, your wedding doesn't have to be the end of the journey.

The Bahamas itself promotes the possibility of marrying on one island and honeymooning on another.

One trip can hold the wedding.

And the beginning of the honeymoon.

WHERE IN THE BAHAMAS?

Sixteen Islands. Very Different Wedding Experiences.

Saying you want to get married in “The Bahamas” is really just the beginning. With so many islands and cays, each offering a different mix of resorts, transportation, activities and atmosphere, choosing the right location is a major part of the planning process.

We still have an important decision to make.

Some islands offer large resorts, extensive amenities, and easier logistics for wedding groups. Others provide privacy, boutique accommodations, and a much quieter experience.

The better question isn't simply:

“Should we get married in the Bahamas?”

It's: “Which Bahamas experience is right for us?”

NASSAU + PARADISE ISLAND

Accessible • Resort-Rich • Full of Possibility

For many destination wedding groups, Nassau and Paradise Island provide the easiest introduction to the Bahamas.

The area offers extensive resort options, restaurants, activities, nightlife, history and straightforward access through Lynden Pindling International Airport.

The Bahamas tourism authority specifically recommends Nassau and Paradise Island for larger weddings because of the ease of airport transfers and breadth of attractions and amenities.

BEST FOR:
Larger groups • Resort variety • Guest convenience • Activities • Multigenerational weddings

EXUMA

Intimate • Extraordinary • Water-Loving

Exuma delivers the kind of water and island scenery many couples imagine when they picture the Bahamas.

The experience can feel more intimate and removed from a major resort destination, making it particularly appealing for couples who value scenery and exclusivity over an extensive resort corridor.

Great Exuma has direct international air service from several U.S. gateways as well as connections through Nassau.

BEST FOR:
Intimate weddings • Incredible water • Romance • Smaller groups • Island experiences

GRAND BAHAMA

Relaxed • Active • Nature-Focused

Grand Bahama combines resort accommodations with beaches, watersports, national parks and opportunities to experience more of the island beyond the wedding property.

It can work particularly well for couples who want a traditional resort experience while giving guests options to explore.

Freeport is served by its own international airport, adding another direct gateway into the Bahamas.

BEST FOR:
Resort weddings • Nature • Activities • Guests who want to explore

ELEUTHERA + HARBOUR ISLAND

Charming • Romantic • Distinctive

Eleuthera and Harbour Island offer a very different Bahamas experience.

Eleuthera stretches across miles of coastline, while Harbour Island provides a smaller, charming setting known for its distinctive character and sense of seclusion.

North Eleuthera International Airport serves northern Eleuthera and acts as a gateway for Harbour Island, which is reached by boat or ferry.

BEST FOR:
Boutique weddings • Intimate groups • Romance • Couples wanting something distinctive

VERONICA'S TAKE

Don't choose a Bahamas wedding location based on the water alone—it will be beautiful almost everywhere. Start with your guest list. A resort that's perfect for 20 adventurous travelers may be completely wrong for 80 guests ranging from children to grandparents. The island has to work for the people coming with you.

BEEN THERE. EXPERIENCED THE BAHAMAS FIRSTHAND.

Choosing the Island Is Only the Beginning.

The Bahamas offers everything from internationally known resorts to boutique hotels and secluded island experiences.

That makes resort selection about much more than finding a beautiful beach.

Behind The Scenes considers how the property will actually work for your wedding and the guests traveling with you.

WHAT KIND OF BAHAMAS EXPERIENCE FITS YOUR WEDDING?

Full-Service Resort or Intimate Island Escape?

FULL-SERVICE RESORT

Ideal for couples wanting plenty of amenities and options for a larger or more diverse guest group.

May work particularly well for:

  • Large wedding groups

  • Multigenerational celebrations

  • Guests wanting restaurants + activities

  • Families traveling with children

  • Couples wanting extensive resort amenities

BUT CONSIDER: Resort size, crowds, wedding-event privacy and how far guests may be spread across the property.

INTIMATE ISLAND ESCAPE

Ideal for couples who prioritize privacy, scenery and a more personal destination experience.

May work particularly well for:

  • Smaller wedding groups

  • Boutique celebrations

  • Couples prioritizing privacy

  • Guests comfortable with additional travel logistics

  • Wedding weekends centered around time together

BUT CONSIDER: Air access, ferry or boat transportation, accommodation inventory, dining options and whether the island can comfortably support your entire group.

Neither is automatically better.

The right answer depends on who's coming with you.

GETTING TO THE BAHAMAS

Your Wedding Journey May Include More Than One Flight.

The Bahamas is one of the Caribbean's most accessible destinations from the United States—but exactly how your guests arrive depends on the island you choose.

The country has 20 international airports, and some Out Islands receive direct international service. Others are most easily reached by connecting through Nassau or using regional flights, ferries or private transportation.

That means we don't evaluate a wedding property without also considering how your guests will actually get there.

BTS PLANNING NOTE

An extra flight or ferry may be completely worth it for the right wedding experience—but your guests should understand the journey before they book. We consider transportation logistics as part of resort selection, not after it.

MAKING IT OFFICIAL

Can U.S. Couples Legally Get Married in the Bahamas?

Yes.

According to the official Bahamas tourism authority, couples may apply for a marriage license one day after arriving in the country and may marry after receiving the approved license. Both parties must provide valid passports, birth certificates, photo identification, and evidence showing when they arrived in the Bahamas. Additional documentation applies when either person has previously been married.

For weddings outside New Providence—Nassau/Paradise Island—and Grand Bahama, couples can obtain their marriage license through the Administrator's Office on the island where the marriage will take place.

BTS PLANNING NOTE

Marriage requirements, government procedures and fees can change. Behind The Scenes can help you understand the planning process, but couples should confirm current legal requirements with the appropriate Bahamian authorities and their wedding provider.

LET'S TALK BUDGET

What Does a Bahamas Destination Wedding Cost?

There isn't one meaningful price for a Bahamas destination wedding.

Your investment can vary considerably based on:

RESORT
Property style, luxury level and inclusions

DÉCOR + FLORALS
Customization and local availability

GUEST COUNT
20 guests and 100 guests require very different plans

PRIVATE EVENTS
Welcome parties • Rehearsal dinners • Farewell events • Excursions

WEDDING PACKAGE
Base package versus customized celebration

TRAVEL LOGISTICS
Additional flights, ferries or private transportation when applicable

WHAT WE LOOK AT INSTEAD

Rather than asking:

“What's the cheapest wedding package?”

we help couples ask:

“What will the entire wedding experience realistically cost?”

DON'T FORGET THE ROOMS

Your Bahamas Wedding Is Also a Group Trip.

Your room-block strategy should reflect both your wedding and the island you've selected.

At a large resort, that may mean managing multiple room categories, rates, deadlines and group concessions.

At a smaller property or on an Out Island, accommodation inventory itself can become one of the most important planning considerations.

Behind The Scenes considers the wedding and accommodations together so your guests have somewhere that works for their budget, travel plans, and overall experience.
